A resident’s perspective – step inside at No. 7 Field Street

“Well-located and functional to live in…a home that meets all our needs and more.” Jane, No. 7 Field Street resident.

Nestled in the heart of Mount Lawley, 7 Field Street offers more than just a modern living space. It is a seamless blend of thoughtful design, prime location and a focus on connected living.

Brought to life by Willing Property, this development stands as an example of adaptable architecture, offering residents both luxury and functionality. In this piece we step inside the home and hear from John and Jane, two residents who have truly embraced the lifestyle this unique development offers.

For John and Jane, the allure of 7 Field Street began with its ideal positioning in one of Mt Lawley’s most desirable pockets. This thoughtful location offers all the charm of suburban living while keeping residents connected to the buzz of Mount Lawley.

“We’re literally just on the edge of the Mt Lawley village but you’re really in a quiet suburban area,” John notes. This proximity allows residents to enjoy the best of both worlds, with everything from shops to medical services all within walking distance.

It is a rare combination of peace and practicality, alongside the homes’ unique architectural style that made it an easy choice for the couple.

The design flexibility was another crucial factor. Willing Property offered customisation options that allowed John and Jane to tailor their living space according to their evolving needs, a feature that became especially important as they planned for the future.

Originally designed without a lift, the couple worked with Willing to include this feature, making the home more accessible as they aged.

“The whole plan was reconfigured… completely redone to make it more attractive” John reflects.

John and Jane describe their home as one that combines functionality with aesthetic appeal. The three-level design of the town home allows for distinct areas with multiple uses throughout the day.

The ground floor is dedicated to the heart of the home – with a kitchen, dining and living area – while the first-floor houses bedrooms and bathrooms. The loft, a particularly surprising and versatile space, serves as a snug TV nook or an additional bedroom when needed.

“We were a bit concerned about the heat in the loft, but it’s just lovely to be able to open the skylight,” Jane shares, noting the b lux skylight as a standout feature of their home. The loft’s European-inspired design enhances the overall spaciousness, making it a cherished spot in the house.

Beyond the interior, the outdoor areas at 7 Field Street also add to the couple’s lifestyle. The private courtyard is a favourite place for meals, particularly breakfast and lunch, providing an intimate and quiet space. Additionally, the larger garden area, shared among residents, creates a community vibe, while preserving the privacy of each home.

7 Field Street’s design has been intentionally crafted to fit the traditional Mt Lawley aesthetic, with an emphasis on keeping the development at a human scale.

“It’s not 10 storeys high; it’s sympathetic with the use of bricks to its heritage,” John notes.

This attention to detail has resulted in a development that harmonises with the neighbourhood and blends seamlessly into the surrounding environment.

Inside the town home, the classic white interior paired with herringbone floors creates a timeless look, which John and Jane love.

The kitchen, dining, and lounge areas have been intentionally left TV-free, allowing the space to come alive, adorned in art pieces. “It’s a very stimulating space with walls completely covered in art pieces,” Jane explains.

After living in both larger homes and apartments, they appreciated the spaciousness and multi-functional design of their new town home, despite it being smaller than previous residences. “We’ve lived in tiny spaces in the past,” John says, adding that embracing the change of lifestyle wholeheartedly has been essential to their happiness in the new space.

The couple emphasises that downsizing can be a cleansing experience. John shares advice for others considering such a move: “You can almost look at the negatives and try to fit your old life into a smaller space, or you can look at it and say this is an opportunity to make life simpler.” This approach to downsizing has allowed them to embrace their new lifestyle with ease.

Living at 7 Field Street has also allowed John and Jane to enjoy a car-free lifestyle, another key reason they chose this development. With access to the 950 bus and local amenities within walking distance, they find themselves less reliant on their vehicle. The town home’s high energy rating was another appealing feature, aligning with their goal of sustainable living.

The development’s European-inspired high-density concept, with homes no more than four or five stories high, allows for a community atmosphere without sacrificing privacy. John likens it to traditional European living, where services, shops, and green spaces are within walking distance, providing a harmonious living environment.

When asked to summarise their experience at 7 Field Street, John and Jane describe it as “well-located and functional to live in.” The blend of thoughtful design, community-focused living, and a serene neighbourhood has provided them with a home that meets all their needs and more.

For those considering a move to a development like 7 Field Street, John and Jane encourage embracing the new lifestyle. John advises, “Be a little bit more circumspect… it’s an opportunity to make life simpler.” They highlight the importance of decluttering, adapting to strata living, and enjoying the benefits of shared maintenance and amenities.

Whether it’s the thoughtful architectural design, the quiet yet connected neighbourhood, or the opportunity to downsize with grace, this property offers a unique living experience in the heart of Mt Lawley.
