Willing to build $32m Perth apartments

A development assessment panel has given the green light to Willing Property’s $32 million apartment proposal on Lake Street, with construction slated to start next year.
The Metro Inner-North Joint Development Assessment Panel today approved the developer’s proposed seven-storey apartment block on the corner of Lake and Stuart streets in Perth.
The project, dubbed 139 Lake, comprises 21 apartments and a coffee shop on the ground floor.
Willing confirmed construction is targeted to start in 2024 and will be carried out by the recently established construction arm Willing Build.
After the meeting, Willing founder Tim Willing said the approval was a testament to the design team.
“Making good design a reality takes a considered and comprehensive process with input from a range of specialists, each with their own area of expertise,” he said.
“I am proud of this result and the recognition of what is a beautiful design that celebrates the rich experiences on offer along Lake Street and surrounds.”
The project was designed by Klopper & Davis Architects and REALMstudios landscape architects.
Architect Sam Klopper said 139 Lake’s form was designed to respond to the cultural and environmental context.
“The building wraps around the trees and landscape to mimic the shifting edge of a lake from which it gets its name,” he said.
“Sweeping curves are enriched by bronze detailing, ensuring an elegant building that will stand gracefully and encourage community interaction and integration with the beautiful adjacent park.”
Mr Klopper said the brick detailing of the building referenced the European cultural heritage.
The Lake Street project is the latest Willing Property’s proposal to be approved this year, following a $37 million apartment development in Coolbinia and the West Residences in Mount Lawley, with an end value of $34 million.
