Classic and cool in transforming urban locale

Article by The West Australian

Willing Property’s newest development – The Coolbinia – is designed to be more than just a collection of exceptional residences.

It embodies a vision for a vibrant and connected community, harmonising modern living with the tightly held suburb’s rich history and charm.

Located in a sought-after area, the project’s refined style aims to enhance the local environment.

“We wanted to create something which feels like it belongs here but still stands out in the best possible way,” Willing Property Founding Director Tim Willing said.

“The architecture isn’t just about the outward facing – it’s about the inside too.

“We’ve used a rich mix of colours and materials inspired by the local landscape, honouring Western Australia’s heritage with locally sourced finishes while adding some global flair to really elevate the spaces.”

The award-winning team at MJA Studio designed The Coolbinia and landscaping was done by CaPA, ensuring the development makes a striking addition to the leafy streetscape.

The architecture marries the elegance of art deco with the optimism of mid-century modernism, featuring arches, colonnades and courtyards bringing a touch of Milanese charm to the locale.

The 33 house-sized residences are available in distinct design schemes, with stone and metal surfaces reflecting natural light, complemented by the warmth of timber and solid marble.

Beyond the aesthetics, The Coolbinia is about creating a lifestyle fostering a strong sense of community and connection.

Willing Property’s approach reflects a broader vision of transforming Perth’s urban landscape by revitalising underutilised pockets.

“With three generations of the family residing in Mount Lawley, we see our developments as the creation of something much bigger,” Mr Willing said.

“The Coolbinia embodies this ethos by offering a unique blend of thoughtful design and curated retail spaces to bring the community together.”

While the project’s architectural elements have been meticulously planned, equal attention has been given to the ground-floor retail spaces.

These areas will host a mix of local businesses, including a cafe, a wine bar and owner-operated shops, enriching the daily lives of residents and visitors.

“Our hospitality division plays an integral role in fulfilling our vision and we’re excited to bring Willing Hospitality to The Coolbinia to further foster community engagement,” Mr Willing said.

Located in an area where nature and urban living are seamlessly integrated, the development offers a serene green escape while being moments from the bustling hubs of Mount Lawley, North Perth and Mount Hawthorn.

It is also just a stone’s throw from the Perth CBD.

Ensconced by centuries-old trees and well-designed communal spaces, residents can enjoy peaceful surrounds without sacrificing city-life convenience.

“We believe great design has the power to inspire change and encourage residents to rethink traditional living arrangements in favour of a more modern, community-oriented lifestyle,” Mr Willing said.

Residences at The Coolbinia are now selling.
